2002-01-17 - 9:19 p.m. forget forget forget forget The mantra kept time with the bobbing needle. Some people had yoga. She had quilting. When she was young, there were so many hesitations, misteps and errors. Now, things came easier. Mistakes are easily remedied. Motions become rhythmic, solutions in measures. sooth snip sooth snip Her hand glided over the fabric as the other seared. Therapy was recommended by many. They didn't understand that talking with someone was just that. She might as well have discussed the weather. It didn't get her anywhere. Sewing was her therapy. pin peace pin peace The incident did not leave her time to gather scraps for the quilt. So, she tore down curtains, gathered bed spreads, and even pulled out old lingerie. Textures, patterns, colors - they all had to be different and interesting. snag She tried to not allow the real world to creep in. Second nature took over and she was back to winding and threading. forget forget forget forget The lighting had dimmed. She woke briefly from her hypnotic state and wondered how long had she been sewing. Her hands kept pushing fabric, selecting colors, matching patterns. forget forget forget forget Her eyes became heavy and her limbs began to droop. Her session was over. She would need to reschedule for another time. As she finished off the quilt by hand, she noticed that the room had become quite dark. Her eyes adjusted and colors gently shadowed her arms. Different patterns and hues created an aura of a dream. Reaching out to find her way, she felt soft cloth. Encircling her were triangles and squares of the most exquisite designs. Above her, a ceiling was patterned into the most interesting sky she had ever seen. Turning around and around, it became apparent that her quilt had engulfed her. Shrouded in time and patterns, she sat back down. forget forget forget forget
